Okay so the short answer first. If a hair topper ships to you from outside the UK, the price on the website isn't the price you pay.
Nobody takes it off you at checkout. Instead the parcel gets held, the courier emails you asking for import duty and VAT, and you pay it before they'll hand it over. That's the bit that catches people out, because right up until that email lands the website price feels like the whole cost.
My Highline came from the US with DHL in December 2020 and the bill was £158.20 on top (and yes, I still have the email). My Lusta came from Australia, and that one was another £60 to £70.
Rates and thresholds have moved since 2020, so take my numbers as a warning. Check the current gov.uk guidance and work yours out before you order.
Two of the toppers I bought shipped from inside the UK, the Moonlight and the Wildflower. There was nothing extra to pay on either, and the Moonlight turned up the next day.
It changes the maths more than you'd think. Uniwigs listed the Melanie at $879, roughly £642 at the time, and that's before customs. My Moonlight cost about the same in pounds with no customs at all, and it arrived already cut with a fringe.
None of this is me knocking Highline or Lusta. I love both of those pieces (the Lusta is still one of my two favourites). It's just that a similar price on an overseas site can end up costing you a lot more by the time it's at your door, and thats worth a few minutes with a calculator before you click buy.
